Smithbilt is very proud of our fur felt hats. We build each fur hat with personal attention to detail. Fur felts are available in European Hare, Beaver Blends and pure Beaver Felt.

Fur has a distinct advantage over wool felt when it comes to durability. The memory in the fur allows for retention of shape, while the fur quality allows for easier clean up and restorations.

A cattleman crease in Smithbilt fur hats are all done by hand. This allows the owner the opportunity to reshape the hat to his exact cattleman specifications including crown height.

Gus

Gus
This old time crease has seen its share of movie roles. The name "Gus" was derived from the hat that Robert Duvall’s character (Gus) wore in the movie "Lonesome Dove. The crown has a dramatic slope from back to front and is still worn by many cowboys today.
